Naval Lodge No. 87 was constituted on May 14, 1855 as the first Masonic organization in Vallejo. Much of the history of Naval Lodge is closely intertwined with the history of the Mare Island Naval Base, which was established four years earlier, in 1851. In it’s early days, the Lodge met above a store in a room known as “Aspenalli’s Sweatbox” at the northeast corner of Virginia and Santa Clara Streets.
In 1866 the Lodge moved into its first building at the northwest corner of Virginia and Marin Streets. In 1873, some members withdrew and formed Solano Lodge No. 229. In 1921, other members withdrew and formed Vallejo Lodge No. 487. Membership in Naval Lodge No. 87 continued to grow, reaching a peak of 1,249 in 1954.

In 1973, Naval Lodge No. 87, Solano Lodge No. 229, and Vallejo Lodge No. 487 moved to its current location, on a hill surrounded by fields. Over time, these fields were transformed into what you see today: a well-developed residential area with our Lodge at the summit offering some of the most spectacular views found in Vallejo. Naval Lodge produced Officer Jewels in commemoration of the centennial celebration of the Lodge in 1955. The names of the first 100 Masters are engraved on the reverse side of the master’s jewel.
